Floyd Music School Students Study in Poland
Floyd and Roanoke County Music Students
Study in Poland
Five students from The
Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra
spent 19 days in Opole, Poland this summer studying
and performing with students and faculty of
The Frederick Chopin School of Music.
The music students, who
represented both Floyd
and Roanoke Counties are:
Hannah Brooke and Elizabeth Parmer, violinists (both
alumni of The Floyd Music School); flutist Megan
Pasquarell; trumpeter Seth Allen; and trombonist,
Daniel Valois. The RYSO musicians, along with students
from Opole, Poland and Potsdam, Germany, attended a
music camp in Glucholazy, Poland where they received
intensive preparation for solo and ensemble performing
as well as a final concert in Wroclaw at The Opole
Symphony Hall. Staying in the homes of Polish music
students/families and touring several Polish cities and
sites, including Auschwitz, Wroclaw, and the king's
castle in Krakow were listed as some of the students'
"favorites" upon their return home.
The Roanoke Valley sister
Cities Opole Committee sponsored
similar experiences in 2006 and 2010 when Opole
students
visited and performed in the Roanoke Valley.
